Guidance for RFP beginners
MBA, APMP-Certified Proposal Expert
After years in the trenches winning RFPs totaling over $2 billion in revenue, I set out to help small- and mid-sized businesses yield the same results. I currently run Utley Strategies, a consultancy dedicated to refining the unique value of our clients so they can win more contracts.
I’ve helped clients:
Outcompete companies two and three times their size,
Rewin contracts despite aggressive (and venture-backed) competitors, and
Shift from winning less than a third of RFPs to maintaining a 50% win rate (with just an 8 week project).
A one-hour Proposal Session is $200.
Yes, to ensure you have a spot on the calendar, you must book your time when purchasing the proposal session.
If something changes and you are no longer able to make that time, one reschedule is allowed.
The Federal space has many subtle nuances that are best known by those who specialize in that space. Demi’s background is primarily SLED, not federal. If you are looking for federal advice, then we recommend you work with a Federal expert instead.
You can share your screen so we can review the proposal during the session, but if you would like detailed feedback with notes and comments, book a proposal review project instead.
No, this session is for guidance and strategy only. We may discuss different writing techniques or ways to present the information, but this is not a writing session.
All proposal sessions will take place over Zoom. If you would like a recording, please indicate that in the comments when you complete the booking.
“Before my proposal consulting session, I was uncertain on how to tackle an RFP and I felt overwhelmed. I wanted to pick the brain of an RFP expert since I have never had to do this before. I learned about the formatting of the RFP, strategies, and focusing on the positives our company has to offer instead of worrying so much about our competition. I'm still in the process of writing the bid proposal, but I know I wouldn't be able to even begin the process with out the training guidance from Demi at Utley Strategies.
You need to reach out to Utley Strategies because Demi is so personable, down-to-earth, and so knowledgeable.”

“I wasn’t sure if I was creating a proper response to my city’s Request for Qualifications. I scheduled an appointment with Demi hoping she could review my input and provide guidance in writing a strong response. With her guidance, I learned how to interpret the RFQ and structure my document directly to the requirements.
Demi knows her stuff. I needed her strength and experience in modeling my document to what the city would expect. If you’re considering a Proposal Session, I’d say get on her schedule immediately!”
